En tant que « fan » de James Brown j’ai toujours eu le plus grand respect pour son tromboniste Fred Wesley. Moins connu et moins exposé que Maceo Parker il a pourtant grandement contribué au « son » de James puisqu’il a composé pas mal de ses tubes comme le fameux « Pass The Peas » ou encore « Soul Power ». L’excellent label de rééditions Hip-O Select vient de sortir un album inédit enregistré en 1970 avec au total 13 titres dont 6 inédits.
Le CD est dispo chez Hip-O Select et sûrement bientôt en import dans les bacs de Gibert-Joseph Paris.

Pour ce #5 de ma série Throwback Soul Videos je voulais balancer quelques vidéos de la chanteuse Lyn Collins . Enormément samplé en rap (voir ici) notamment avec son titre « Think », elle reste portant méconnue du grand public. Choriste pour James Brown elle est resté dans l’ombre du chanteur et n’a sortie hélas que 2 albums solo « Think (About It) » en 1972 et « Check Me Out… » en 1975. En 2005 elle était revenu sur scène pour une tournée européenne qui était d’ailleurs passé par Paris mais elle est décédé quelques semaines plus tard à son retour aux Etats-Unis. Pour ceux qui ne la connaissent pas je vous conseille vivement d’écouter ses 2 albums, c’était une grande voix!
Et comme je n’ai trouvé que ces 2 vidéos de Lyn Collins en voici 2 autres en rapport direct avec elle puisqu’il s’agit d’images de James Brown que je n’avais jamais vu. JAMES BROWN, LYN COLLINS (R.I.P)
