J’avais parlé ici l’année dernière de ce documentaire consacré au mouvement « black » américain. Arte en diffusera demain soir à 22H45 une version « raccourcie » de 58 mn (contre presque 100 mn en salles) mais ça reste à ne pas louper. Programmez vos Freebox!!!
De 1967 à 1972, des équipes de télévision suédoises se sont intéressées au mouvement des droits civiques aux États-Unis. Du quotidien d’une famille noire qui manque de tout au désespoir des habitants de Harlem après les assassinats de Martin Luther King et Bob Kennedy, d’un discours de Bobby Seal au procès très médiatisé de l’égérie des Black Panthers Angela Davis, ces journalistes ont relayé le soulèvement de la population afro-américaine en tentant d’en comprendre les causes. Ils ont approché les grands leaders du Black Power lors de prises de positions publiques, mais aussi dans l’intimité. Dans une séquence particulièrement forte, Stokely Carmichael interviewe sa maman, qui raconte la misère et les discriminations. Dans un autre entretien d’une franchise stupéfiante, Angela Davis, interrogée depuis sa prison sur l’usage de la violence, s’emporte contre le journaliste avant d’évoquer son enfance, marquée par les meurtres raciaux et la possession vitale d’armes pour se défendre.
Mosaïque visuelle Göran Hugo Olsson a exhumé les rushes en 16mm de la télévision suédoise pour composer une mosaïque visuelle d’une richesse saisissante, complétée par des témoignages et des anecdotes en voix off de personnalités célèbres comme Erykah Badu, Harry Belafonte ou Angela Davis elle-même. Sorti en salles dans sa version longue (de 1967 à 1975), ce documentaire, rythmé par la musique de Questlove, ressuscite la période charnière durant laquelle s’est forgée l’âme du Black Power et interroge son héritage à l’heure où l’Amérique a élu un président noir. |

Voici une très bonne news pour ce début 2011, Sony Music a en effet décidé de rééditer en version remasterisée 2 albums de Bill Withers « Naked & Warm » (1976) et « Making Music » (1975) sorti à l’époque chez Columbia. Ces 2 rééditions coïncident avec la sortie en DVD le 25/01/11 du documentaire « Sill Bill » qui revient sur la carrière du talentueux et discret Bill Withers, achat obligatoire pour les amateurs de Soul!
