A quelques mois de son édition 2011 qui se tiendra à Madrid fin octobre, la Red Bull Music Academy lance son World Tour : d´août à octobre, une série d’événements artistiques uniques illumineront 10 villes du monde (Sao Paulo, New York, Detroit, Rome…), entre installations artistiques et créations live.
En préambule de son projet Questlove’s Afro Picks, étape parisienne du Red Bull Music Academy World Tour en forme de création live pharaonique (avec Tony Allen, Black Thought, Macy Gray, Amp Fiddler…), Ahmir Thompson aka Questlove prend d’assaut les platines du Cabaret Sauvage pour une nuit de mix éclectique. Pierre angulaire -et chevelue- du groupe de Philadelphie The Roots, batteur de renom et multi-producteur du rap américain (Jay-Z, Common, Erykah Badu…), ce chantre de l’afro-modernisme constitue à lui seul un pont entre tradition et modernité, vibrations originelles et productions ultramodernes. De Fela à Jay Dee, des Delphonics à Miriam Makeba, les sélections azimutées de ce maître du rythme relient la tradition africaine à celle de l’Amérique moderne. Chez Questlove, la furie révolutionnaire de l’Afro beat, la contestation digitale du rap et le groove libérateur du funk n’ont qu’un seul dénominateur commun : le beat, la transe. Autour de lui, deux artistes du label français Musique Large, à l’identité musicale et visuelle exigeante : Rekick, fondateur du label aux sélections aussi larges que son label, et Fulgeance, beatmaker de haut vol qui coule son luxueux hip-hop made in Detroit dans un moule électronique.
